Summary of the major points in the Taiao Raukawa submission are that:
-
The Ōroua River is a natural taonga of Ngāti Raukawa;
-
Taiao Raukawa advocates on behalf of Ngāti Raukawa and that we have traditionally opposed of any type of discharge entering into our fresh water and salt water systems;
-
Taiao Raukawa opposes of any further consents that allows human effluent-sewage and storm-water to enter into the Ōroua River;
-
The Feilding Sewage Treatment Plant has been running off a series of “interim” consent permits since 2001 – why has this been allowed to occur?;
-
In 2004, the end of the pipeline was destroyed in a flood, and for 6 years waste-water has been flowing in an open drain – why has this been allowed to occur?;
-
Overall, Taiao Raukawa opposes on cultural and ecological grounds; and
-
Taiao Raukawa requests that these applications are declined and that an alternative land-based system is implemented which is environmentally sustainable.
Status: Awaiting Pre-Hearing or Hearing arrangements.
